There's even a song that children sing about the Tanuki in schoolyards,
Tan Tan Tanuki no kintama wa,
Kaze mo nai no ni,
Bura bura
The Tan- Tan- Tanuki's testicles are,
Despite there being no wind blowing,
Swaying, swaying, swaying

My mind was blown when I realized that Mario's flying suit is a raccoon dog. Thank god they omitted the balls.
If you want more raccoon balls, get Pom Poko it's a whole movie about an epic raccoon battle where they use their testicles as weapons. It's a pretty good watch, here's a notable clip.
speaking of mario the video clip reminded me of the maneuvers mario does with his cape in super mario world
ReplyDeleteThat's a raccoon outfit not a raccoon dog, the ringed tail is the most distinctive difference between a raccoon dog and a raccoon.
DeleteActually the original name of the power-up is "Tanooki Suit".
DeleteIn Super Mario Land the name of one of the power-ups is Super Balls. coincidence?
Deletethere is a movie called pom poko about this. its very good
ReplyDeleteDid you really start a blog about Japan while knowing basically nothing about their culture or history? Wow.
ReplyDelete"Did you really start a blog about Japan while knowing basically nothing about their culture or history? Wow."
ReplyDeleteGook
who cares about culture or history...this isn't a national geographic blog it's WTF japan seriously. get over it
ReplyDeletefuck you
Deletewhat the fuck did you say about me?
DeleteI watched pom poko back when I was like nine, I heard that studio ghibli made it so I thought I would like it.
ReplyDeleteBAD mistake, I had no idea what a tanuki was, much less what balls were.
chill out ppl!!!
ReplyDeleteive studied japan for the past year, and this is the first time ive EVER heard about prosperous racoon dag balls! XD
Yeah. This isn't an actual study of Japan, it's a humorous observation of how weird shit from Japan is, which is something you need little background to understand.
ReplyDeleteOmg thank gawd Totoro didn't have balls
ReplyDelete"Did you really start a blog about Japan while knowing basically nothing about their culture or history? Wow."
ReplyDeleteGet over it. We're here to have a good laugh, not learn about the culture. The whole reason it's funny in the first place is because we don't understand it. Different parts of the world have a different sense of humor/style/taste/etc.
THIS SO SO MUCH.
DeleteTHANKS YOU.
YES YES YES.
"ive studied japan for the past year, and this is the first time ive EVER heard about prosperous racoon dag balls! XD"
ReplyDeleteIf you've really been studying Japan, you would know what a Tanuki is.
XD
ReplyDeleteWTF indeed.
weabos! all of you!
ReplyDeletehaha and from japan, people who eat thrice the amount of food they do is strange :P
ReplyDelete... then again they DO have all those eating competitions which totally nullifies my argument xD
"BAD mistake, I had no idea what a tanuki was, much less what balls were."
ReplyDeleteYou what?
Have recently learned that the character "Tom Nook" in Wii "Animal Crossing" is a tanuki -but without the monster balls. He's just a sharp businessman, one of their other characteristics.
ReplyDeletekids sing about the giant balls of a accoon dog... nice, japan...
ReplyDeleteOMG... my mom taught me how to sing that children's song years ago! I had NO IDEA this is what I was really singing about...!!
ReplyDeleteI lived in Japan for nearly a decade, and I used to see these statues all over the place, but somehow nobody ever explained this to me. I can't stop laughing. 笑
ReplyDeleteEeeeek! A scrotum!
ReplyDeleteOkay, seriously, this was disturbing. I heard about that video, but didn't believe in it for 2 years. Well, now I know. How big. Those balls. Are.
Im japanese, and tanuki balls are supposed to be funny. But also in japan nudity isnt a big deal.
ReplyDeleteIf nudity isn't a big deal then why is all Japanese pornography censored?
Deletewtf
ReplyDeleteid rather see these tanuki ball statues on the streets instead of those nasty obese fat american asses. yuk
ReplyDelete>Saying this as if Japan doesn't have fat people
Delete>Or any other country, or Brazil, which has an even higher rate of obesity than America
>Weeaboo faggots.
>greentexting outside of 4chan
Delete>replying to two year old comments
ishiggydiggy
Them weeaboos...these species of mankind are ashamed to be the breed known as Americans that'd rather see tanuki balls than themself...
ReplyDeleteYeah its a good film by Studio Ghibli, little did I know that awkwardness was to come...
ReplyDeleteIts great just don't watch with company, why couldn't they just use their bellies or something.
It took a while to figure out why the local Ramen place even had such an outlandish looking figure in their shop.
ReplyDeletewhat thissite needs is a vid of big balledtanuki in anime or the statues.... with ACDC song Big Balls playing....
