Bullet Train
Japan Rail announced that they'll be shooting a commercial from their soon to be opened bullet train line and thousands of people showed up to celebrate. People are very excited about this new line, it connects southwest Japan to the rest of their extensive train system. Now people living in Kagoshima Chuou can get to Osaka in just under 4 hours.

ReplyDeleteGood for you Japan!
ReplyDeleteShit. It's so touching seeing almost the whole nation celebrate with such joy. I wish it was like that in my country. The things we celebrate here are petty stuff.
ReplyDeleteIf only we had more than one high-speed rail line in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteIf only Amtrak was half as reliable as the Shinkansen......
ReplyDeleteI wish here in the UK we were as accepting of new rail plans as Japan. We were supposed to have lots of new high speed rail lines connecting up our cities but it's been met with nothing but protest and I don't understand why - it should be as happy and positive as the Japanese find it!
ReplyDeleteit's swedish/japanese singer Maia Hirasawa

ReplyDeleteHere(NW coast of USA)they put in overpriced, trolly-slow rails that run only six blocks, in the middle the busiest streets. Or they run poorly scheduled overpriced trains on freight rails a total of 40 miles with no bicycle train-cars, no parking or reliable buses at either terminal, and think they just made such a huge advancement. For longer trips, Amtrak tickets cost more than airplane tickets and have to yield to every frieght train as the tracks are owned and maintained by the freight companies.

ReplyDeleteFor the cities now connected by this line it may be a blessing, but the huge stretches of land where it doesn't stop... well, the old people seem to remain in those parts, otherwise they're pretty much deserted
